Novices The Club caters for Novices at all stages, ages, abilities and those just
starting. With coaching available and the usual friendly advice from the other
Guns, you are bound to improve. If you are a Novice, or even someone who has
always wanted to begin Clay Shooting but has never had the opportunity, we
would be glad to hear from you. We are prepared to help with all the details,
advice on buying equipment, gun, gun security, the law and of course help in
filling in and applying to the Police for a Shot Gun Certificate. The Club is in possession of a
Section 11 Exemption Certificate and is therefore approved by the Chief
Superintendent of the Essex Police for the shooting of artificial targets. This
means that you do not need a Shot Gun Certificate in order to begin shooting
with us. Under the law the only way one can be in possession of a shotgun and
learn to use it is either at an approved shooting ground, or on private land, in
the presence of the Landowner, who must have a Shot Gun Certificate.
The Novice will arrive at the ground, be taken through: Safety How to hold a shotgun Recoil and how to avoid it Principles of Shotgun Shooting Shooting a moving target “Dry” Practice (unloaded gun) Practice Coaching The coaches are well versed in all methods and we will have you hitting clay pigeons before you leave. The cost per person is £ 35.00 and is fully inclusive of: Unlimited Clays 25 Cartridges Gun Hire Coaching and Supervision Refreshments In addition the coaches will discuss with you how to get into the sport, applying for a shotgun certificate, and will answer any other questions you may have about the sport. The ground holds a Police Section 11 Exemption Certificate, and you do not require a shotgun certificate to shoot at Spellbrook Clay Shooting Club. We have contacts with the
local Gun shops and outfitters, plus the local shooting schools. Membership of
the
CPSA (Clay Pigeon Shooting Association) can be applied for
through the Club, and membership is recommended for the benefits that this
provides - not least of which is the excellent insurance cover provided. We are happy to announce that we are now offering professional coaching services. This will be on dedicated stands with automatic traps. John Farley, BASC Qualified and Registered Shooting Coach will take bookings for coaching sessions fro the beginner through to the experienced shot - both clay and game tuition is available. Coaching is by appointment only and John can be reached on 07973 890266. We offer "Novice Days" for those who wish to try Clay Shooting - but always thought it was too difficult to get into. The format of the day is simple and designed with the beginner in mind. The first part of the morning is spent on a safety talk, which includes the correct way to remove and replace the gun from a gun-slip, how to safely use a shotgun, and safety on the shooting range. The lesson moves on to deal with recoil, the correct stance, "master eye" recognition, gun hold, and of course; how to shoot moving targets.
Designed for groups of three to ten people at a time, the cost is inclusive of Clays, Cartridges, Gun Hire, Instruction, Advice and refreshments. We can, with prior arrangement, cater for single novices. The price is for unlimited clays, 25 cartridges, and is fully inclusive at £ 35.00 per person. Parties or individuals can be catered for.
The Novice will be taken through: Safety How to Hold a Shotgun / Stance Recoil, and How to Avoid It Principles of Shotgun Shooting / Master Eye Test Coaching / "Dry" Shooting Practice / Live Round Target Shooting
