NEW CLUBHOUSE We now have a new Clubhouse based in a 20' container where you can have a cup of tea and a burger, buy your scorecards, chat and on those rare occasions that it rains - you can shelter too!
SECTION 11 EXEMPTION.
Spellbrook Clay Shooting Club
is approved by the Essex Police for the purpose of Clay Pigeon Shooting and is
in receipt of a Section 11 Exemption Certificate. Please note that the Essex
Police with regard to Section 11 (6) of the Firearms Act 1968 have brought a
legal requirement to our attention.
"The club is an approved
shooting ground and persons who do not possess a Shotgun certificate may use the
ground only under responsible and effective supervision. The approval is not
intended to provide an opportunity for regular shooting by persons who do not
possess a Shotgun Certificate."
Please note that if you shoot
regularly at the club, you must be in possession of a Shotgun Certificate. If
you require any help in this regard please speak to Earl Walker.
Spellbrook Clay Shooting Club
has always prided itself on the excellent safety record, which it has maintained
since inception. The Rules of the Club are intended to enhance the enjoyment of
both Members and Non-Member alike, and to ensure that those using the ground are
safe. The rules also cover the details of the Membership schemes and other
related topics.
SAFETY
Remember that safety is the
responsibility of everyone on the Shooting Ground. Please let us know if you see
anyone or anything that you think may be unsafe. The Club reserves the right to
expel, without refund, any person considered to be acting in a way that may
endanger themselves or others. Safety Officer at the ground is Earl Walker.
PARKING The shoot is held on private land. The parking of cars on the shooting ground is allowed but on the basis that no responsibility is accepted by the landowners or the shoot whilst vehicles are parked on the ground. Those wishing to park on the ground do so entirely at their own risk and neither Spellbrook Clay Shooting Club or the landowners will accept any liability. Please take care to park carefully, to avoid hazards to your vehicle and others whilst on the ground.
COACHING Coaching [Hyperlink to Coaching] is available both for novices, and for Guns who have a specific problem or simply wish to improve their overall performance. For details please enquire at the Club House.
RAMBLING
ON You may be aware that there is a Public Footpath that runs through the field on which the shoot is held. This is a Public Right of Way and we cannot, by law, restrict access. It does appear that we have an increasing number of Ramblers who want to use the footpath whilst we are shooting. When a Rambler enters the Shooting Ground all shooting must cease until the Ramblers are a safe distance – this means out of sight. Please ensure that you do not commence shooting until the Ramblers are over the hill. An Air Horn will be sounded to end shooting (1 long tone) - please desist from shooting immediately, the Air Horn will be sounded again to indicate resumption of shooting - (2 short tones).
HEARING
PROTECTION Your hearing is precious, the Club and the CPSA recommend the use of hearing protection. Disposable earplugs are available at the Club House. We also recommend the wearing of spectacles (preferably shatterproof) to protect the eyes from the hazards of clay shards.
A historic milestone was reached by one of our regular guns – Stuart Lodge who shot a 50 straight on 27th February 2001. To mark this occasion the Club presented a framed certificate containing the scorecard, and one year’s free membership to Stuart. Well done.
